Start your unforgettable one-day journey through South Sulawesi’s natural and cultural wonders with a comfortable pick-up from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport or your hotel in Makassar. From here, you’ll embark on a scenic 90-minute drive by a fully air-conditioned private car, passing through lush rice fields and limestone hills on your way to the breathtaking Rammang-Rammang Karst Area in Maros — the third largest karst landscape in the world.

Upon arrival, your adventure begins with a 30-minute boat ride along the calm Pute River. Surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs, mangrove forests, and tranquil waterways, this river journey offers an experience unlike any other. Along the way, you can witness local villagers paddling in traditional wooden canoes and spot birds or butterflies fluttering through the air. The serenity and beauty of the karst formations make it an ideal setting for photography and relaxation.

Once you arrive at the main karst area, you’ll explore some of Rammang-Rammang’s most iconic spots. Walk through small limestone valleys, visit the Telaga Bidadari (Angel Lake), and experience the unique rural atmosphere of Kampung Berua, a picturesque village surrounded by towering cliffs and green rice fields. This site offers a glimpse into the simple life of local residents who live in harmony with nature. You’ll have time to take photos, enjoy the fresh air, and immerse yourself in the peaceful environment.

Next, enjoy a delicious local lunch at Café Bambu, a cozy riverside café surrounded by nature. The café offers a relaxing atmosphere and serves traditional Indonesian dishes prepared with local ingredients. It’s the perfect place to rest and recharge while admiring the stunning view of the karst landscape.

After lunch, continue your journey to Leang-Leang Prehistoric Park, located about 30 minutes away from Rammang-Rammang. This archaeological park is famous for its ancient prehistoric caves, which contain hand stencils and animal paintings dating back more than 40,000 years. These artworks are among the oldest known cave paintings in the world, offering incredible insight into early human civilization. You’ll explore several cave sites such as Leang Pettae and Leang Petta Kere, where guides will share fascinating stories about their history and discovery.

Strolling through Leang-Leang, you’ll be surrounded by dramatic limestone formations and scenic landscapes, making it both an educational and visually captivating experience. The combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes this park one of South Sulawesi’s most significant historical destinations.

As the day comes to a close, you’ll head back to Makassar or Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in the comfort of your private vehicle. Along the way, enjoy the passing views of Maros’ countryside, completing a full-day journey filled with discovery, nature, and history.

This one-day Rammang-Rammang and Leang-Leang tour is perfect for travelers with limited time who still wish to experience the best of Maros. It combines the awe-inspiring beauty of the karst landscape with the rich cultural heritage of prehistoric art — all in a single, unforgettable day.
